We are a nonprofit organization founded in 2015 by doctors and students to bring medical relief to Belize with the priority of sustainability and encouraging self-sufficiency via education and long-term projects. Our organization has since expanded to other parts of the world that we are called to assist.
In 2013, the Tao family decided to take a trip to Belize to experience jungle ziplining and explore beautiful snorkeling spots in the Caribbean Sea. We had heard about the incredible nature and unparalleled adventures that Belize had to offer, but had not expected that what we found was that we had fallen in love with the lighthearted and friendly spirit and lifestyle of the Belizean locals, and created lifelong companionships. As we continued visiting, our close local friends spoke to us about the urgent need for medical care, and we wanted to do what we could to help. Starting Agape Belize Cure allowed us to bring medical supplies and care to Belize, with a hope to educate and encourage sustainability among our patients, and help support and strengthen the local healthcare system. We bring students with us to inspire and encourage them to create sustainable change, particularly through our expansion into long-term projects such as long-term parasite eradication via water tank installation, teaching local ladies how to make salable soap from their coastal-grown seaweed, etc. We are always looking to improve and learn to be able to better minister to our world community. We hope that ABC will be able to continue to impact lives and inspire change in our future generations.
We chose to use the word "agape" as the foundation of our organization's name, as agape is universal love. We aspire to show care to everyone in our mission, from fellow workers to patients. Everyone deserves to be shown compassion and love, unconditionally.
